Week 12: I Know Where I've Been

“There’s platter of tunes and food on the table! What else do you expect from....Ms Motormouth Maybelle!!”
Hey hey!  I’m Chanita and I play the role of Motormouth Maybelle and when it comes to rehearsals “You can’t get lazy when things get crazy!”
I’ve had a pretty busy week this week because it’s been the Motormouth inspiration scene which is one of the big scenes with the song “I Know Where I’ve Been” where me and my company with link Tracy, Penny and my son Seaweed go on our great protest to integrate blacks and whites together so we can dance on the Corny Collins show. Whilst rehearsing for this scene I'd also been rehearsing for the play Roberto Zucco and helping to do the sound for Battle Of The Bands which were both a great success!
I was really impressed and proud of the Motormouth company cast because when learning the vocal harmonies for the song there were some difficult notes to sing but everyone worked hard and we all sung our hearts out and began to get emotionally connected with song and produced an amazing sound.

we also performed the song during short course to the rest of the cast which got a huge round of applause which I was pleased with to know that cast put all their effort into song and it feels like a great achievement.

I think all I can say now is that I cant wait to perform the show in the new theatre and actually feel like west end stars!

Extra Rehearsal! - Saturday 22nd January

Due to delays with the new building we have had to add an additional Saturday rehearsal on Saturday 22nd January 9:30am – 4pm to sort all costume, hair and set for the show.  This is out of our control and all are expected to attend.  Band members can use this day to rehearse and will also have their hair sorted!

Week 11: Without Love

Hey, I’m Katie and I play the part of Penny.

This week’s rehearsal was the continuation of “Without Love”. This is one of my biggest scenes in the play. It is when Penny suddenly starts to become “cool” and the two races unite.

I’ve always been in the chorus in previous shows, but this year I finally get to play a principle character, and my determination to be on the same level as the other principle members continues to grow as the process continues.

My biggest fear in the show from the very beginning was the singing. I’ve always been a loud and confident singer being part of a group but singing solo is something I have very little confidence in doing. At the start of the week, I was nervous about the big notes that I’m required to sing, I did struggle to begin with, but with hard work and practice I’ve been able to grow more confident in singing and really try my best.

This week, as a group, has been difficult. The amount of energy needed for this scene is immense, on a vocal and chorographical level! Everyone has put in their all and really strived to be the best they can. However we not only had to do three days of solid rehearsals this week, we also had to put on two performances of “Good Morning Baltimore” and “I Can Hear The Bells” in the Friday assembly. Despite the spatial problems and slight case of nerves among most of us, the performances in my opinion were awesome. Everyone put in 100%, they gave it their all and I have never been prouder to be part of a group of people so determined.

Although March seems far away now, it really won’t be long and I can’t wait to get on that stage and perform the show of my life with the people I love! :’)
Well done guys, keep it up!
